WPU U11 Girls Ayum Undefeated @ Naples Spring Shootout Soccer tournament

Apr 25, 2017 | Trending News

The WPU U11 girls Ayum went undefeated at Naples Spring Shootout on April 1st weekend. They brushed past a feisty Van Deusen North Port Fusion FC Team, beating them 2-1. Our girls showed great composure and character with goals scored by Alyna McFadden and Karina Claros.

The next game – SWFL Elite Soccer Academy was hammered 4-1. There were some really brilliant and scintillating combination plays orchestrated by Isabella Mendez in midfield. Alyna McFadden notched 2 goals, with a 3rd through Julianna Nelson (poaching the goal like a true striker), and Melanie (Ching Ling) Sanchez finishing with a simple tap in for the 4th goal. Final score 4-1.

In the semi finals against SWFL Elite Soccer Academy, Alyna McFadden opened the scoring again. Other goals scorers were Isabella Mendez (1), Karina Claros (2), Julianna Nelson (2) and Sarah Manning (1). The semi-final was won by a whopping 7-0.

The final on April 2nd was against a “seemingly” well prepared CSNYS Florida Fire Juniors team. Karina Claros opened the scoring with a quick break away, powering past the advancing goal keeper to make it 1-0. Claros again was clinical in her finishing making it 2-0. The Florida Fire Juniors was feeling overwhelmed, as our girls passed and moved the ball with efficiency, eventually notching another 2 goals by Melanie (Ching Ling) Sanchez and Alyna McFadden respectively, for a convincing 4-0 win to be crowned Champions!

Some of the other coaches as well as referees that were privy to seeing the exhibition displayed over the weekend by our girls, had nothing but compliments about the team. One referee said, “In all his years of refereeing, he has never seen girls play and move the ball that well at that age”. One parent asked, “do you guys ever lose to anyone?” LOL.

Coach Jeff was extremely proud of their performance noting all their hard work is finally paying off. The defense was rock solid with Sophie Echemendia, Adriana Lopez, Faith Espiritusanto, Sarah Cartagena and Isel Zilka all playing superbly. Goalkeeper Marianna Patino was also outstanding, only allowing 2 goals all tournament while we scored 17! The midfield also worked very well with Isabella Mendez, Zoey Ziadie, Melanie Sanchez, Alyna McFadden and Hannah Flores… Lastly, It was also really nice to see Sarah Manning and Juliana Nelson performances! While there is more work to be done, we will enjoy this victory!!
