West Pines teams produced sterling performances to capture a club record 14 championships during the 13th annual West Pines K
ickoff Classic. From U 9’s to the High School divisions, our gold and black clad teams brought glory to themselves and their club, narrowly missing on two other championships when our finalists lost in penalty kicks.
Starting the medal haul during the first weekend, WPU girls erupted to take home a whopping eight championships in seven different age groups, including a number of surprise winners in the U 9, U 10 and High School divisions. Our girls had thrown the gauntlet for the boys to equal or surpass their performance the following week, and they almost did.
Having taken six championships, the boys were poised to equal the performance of the girls when the tournament’s last two games found them competing for top honors. Though fighting gallantly through regulation play both teams succumbed during the penalty kick shoot-out phase, leaving the girls to gloat a bit. The boys have promised to reverse the outcome at next year’s renewal.
