Diamond Teams

As our club continues to evolve with the Elite Training Program, we would like to inform all our members about another opportunity for player development within the club. We have always strived to put player in the right environment for development. Hopefully with this new program, we hope it will help develop our players more efficiently and help them get to the highest level they possibly can as they train with their assigned team or more advanced teams within our club.

The Elite Training Program is for every player within our club. These players have the opportunity to attend an extra day of training each week. Recently our head coaches were instructed to have all players complete a Baseline metrics with the help of the Elite Training staff. These metrics included “physical” as well as “technical” measurements, which in turn provides detail information for the development of the players. With this data, coaches can now identify physical or technical skills that a player may be lacking and they can plan more efficiently how to train these players.

Now that we are able to quantify the skill level of our players, the Elite Training Program can now use this data to identify the top percentile players in each age/gender group. These players will be placed on “Diamond” rosters for both boys and girls. Our Diamond rosters will consist of the top 15 players for an 11v11 team and 11 players for a 9v9 team (Training staff may finalize a roster with additional 2-3 players based on player development). We plan to have six teams:

WPU Diamond Girls

  • 18U     2000-2001-2002
  • 15U     2003-2004-2005
  • 12U     2006-2007-2008

WPU Diamond Boys

  • 18U     2000-2001-2002
  • 15U     2003-2004-2005
  • 12U     2006-2007-2008

Top percentile players from each evaluation will train on assigned days and they must maintain their status at each evaluation. These players will have the opportunity to be placed on a “Diamond” roster, where they will represent West Pines United in designated games/tournaments. Evaluations will be done throughout the season, allowing every player the opportunity to secure a spot on one of these “Diamond” roasters. Keep in mind that players are not guaranteed a spot unless they score in the top percentile after each evaluation and meet the other requirements.

These players will now be awarded opportunities to play up with more competitive teams as well as assignment to a Diamond roster, which will be coached by one of our more experienced coaches at the competitive level. Players on a Diamond roster will be required to train together on designated days. Not only will they have to maintain their position from the evaluations, but they will also have to attend training if they hope to participate in this program.

Planned training will be on Tuesdays for the girls and Fridays for the Boys, but coaching staff may elect to do additional training depending on upcoming events. Wednesday Elite training will still be an option for all players. Our Elite training schedule has not changed:

  • Fridays: 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesdays: 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • All training is done at Silver Lakes North park

Our club continues to seek sponsors and encourages fundraising, but we also plan to subsidize some of these expenses for our Diamond roster teams.

Every player within the club is encouraged to attend Elite training once a week on their assigned day of training, to work on their deficient physical or technical skills. Since these Diamond roasters are never final, every player has the opportunity to make one of these rosters in a given cycle. Our next evaluation will take place within several weeks, so take advantage and have the players start attending Elite training, so they can be better prepared for their next evaluation. Players will be scheduled by teams for evaluation, so your head coach will let you know when the next evaluation is.

Every parent/player can now review the evaluation of a player to see what physical or technical skill they need to focus on. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this data and don’t hesitate to review with your head coach or Elite training staff a plan of action for your child. We look forward to working with every player as they strive to be a better player.
